The Bride’s parents are hosting a full-day of island hopping and a picnic lunch. They have hired a company to take all our guests to three unique islands with plenty of sand, sun, tropical fish and fun times to be had by all. There will be life jackets, snorkels, a kayak to share and of course some boats to get us there! Lunch is a combination of western and Filipino food that is perfect for a beach picnic – drinks too of course! Shuttle buses will pick us up from Plantation Bay Resort reception area again, but the time is yet to be determined. This information will also be provided to confirmed guests 1 month prior to the wedding.

* We would like to thank our parents for generously hosting these activities and giving us a chance to spend some quality time with our guests. We hope you can join us!

Bohol

Hello again,

Some of the guests attending our wedding are planning to spend a few days on the island of Bohol.. ourselves included. Bohol is a one hour boat ride from Cebu (where the wedding is) and there are several large cruise lines that make this trip nearly every hour of the day. There are so many exciting things to do in Bohol from visiting the chocolate hills to the cuddly tarsiers or just lounging on the pristine beaches. There is an airport in the capital of Bohol (Tagbilaran) that can take you to Manila for about $40. Alecs and I are flying into Cebu and out of Bohol. I just can’t wait until we are sitting on a beach, the waves lapping against the shore creating that cool breeze that makes you look up and realize that you are here in this island paradise without a worry in the world. Ahhh….I can just feel the sand between my toes and the relaxed feeling just thinking about it. Don’t forget mango and watermelon shakes – which are to die for. Check out this video that highlights some of the many things you can do on the island. Enjoy!

FLIGHTS

278 days until our wedding! Just thinking about that makes me excited and terrified…so much to do and the time is literally flying by.

www.cebupacificair.com.jpgAlecs and I have booked our flights to the Philippines as have our parents and grandparents and Alecs’ brother – most of the flights for the time of the wedding are now available. So we decided to compile some information for those wishing to do some booking!

The island we are getting married on (CEBU) has an international airport (Mactan International -CBE) that you may choose to fly into. Flying to this airport is slightly more expensive although more convenient. The other option is flying to Manila International Airport (the capital city of the Philippines). This is the most in-expensive option. If you fly into Manila we would recommend booking your flight to Cebu using Cebu Pacific Air as it is the most inexpensive flight (this flight is only 55 minutes).

Cebu Pacific Air is a budget airline that operates throughout the Philippines. The international terminal for this airline is the nicest although they do not fly from Canada to the Philippines (but they do from most Asian countries). This is the best option for inter-country flights.

Philippines Air has it’s own terminal and flies direct from Vancouver to Manila (which is very convenient). Through combinations with other airlines it is possible to fly to Cebu as well (usually through Korea, China or Hong Kong).

Korean Airlines – At the moment Korean airlines has the cheapest fares to the Philippines and has a variety of options for connecting flights (all of which go through Seoul as well).

Search Engines - If you are trying to find the cheapest flights possible we would recommend using Expedia.ca – we consistently find this search engine finds the cheapest options available and is very user friendly.

Best of luck and please let us know if you have any

Wedding Cake Ideas

I have been thinking about the wedding since we got engaged in July last year but the cake has always been something I just can’t picture. We want something simple, not extravagant but we certainly want to pull in our theme. So we need to have a blue and white cake and there needs to be something starfish related. So I started to search for some inspiration and figured out a few things. I like square cakes. I think three tiers is the perfect amount. I love flowers on cakes. I want the actual cake to be white. I like blue ribbon around the tiers. I don’t like tons of starfish or seashells to be on the cake. I do like the look of a couple chocolate starfish.

I’m still on the fence as far as cake toppers are concerned. Alecs has pretty much handed over the reigns on this one so it’s all up to me. I found these adorable personalized cake toppers make of paper that are completely customized to the couple…but I just can’t justify $120-$225 on some paper that I’ll never use again. So I started to look for alternatives. This could be a great place for the starfish to appear, but it is also a perfect place for some gorgeous blue flowers….decisions decisions. So what can I do to aide me in this decision? Why another inspiration board of course!!

Wedding Dress Inspiration Board

There are so many beautiful wedding dresses, which makes it that much more difficult to pin point what I want. I love a sheer cap sleeve and a simple A-line shape but I envision a beautiful flowing gown that moves with the wind. I also love lace and empire waists and a nice short train. I want something timeless but most important I want something that looks good on me. So basically everything I have in my head might just fly out the window when I start trying dresses on. Nevertheless, I have created an inspiration board using www.weddingwire.com and I think I’ll be making many more of these in the near future!

We have our wedding planner!!

Now that it is less than a year to our wedding date we are starting to really get into the planning stage and more importantly the ‘doing’ stage.  Speaking of planning and doing, Alecs and I met with our  wedding coordinator over Skype last night for the first time. After quite a lot of researching we decided to go with Tisha Mae Sanchez-Cue of Bliss Unlimited. Tisha is fantastic and just seems to be on the exact same wavelength as us. She understands that we want our wedding to be laid back and simple with a touch of class. She has tons of great ideas and is a wealth of knowledge and we are really looking forward to working with her.

We focused on our overall theme, how we want the day to unfold and what we still needed to do (pretty much everything). Tisha helped us out with a list of photographers and today we spent the day short listing them and I think we’ve come up with our number one and he just so happens to be available on our date! We’ll keep it a secret until we have him confirmed!

There is so much left to do but it’s really exciting to have someone else helping us plan that is on the ground in our location! YAY!

1 year from today!

Happy New Year! We hope everyone enjoyed their winter holiday and got spoiled and some much needed rest…I know we did!

Today is January 07, 2011, EXACTLY 1 YEAR FROM OUR WEDDING. We couldn’t be more excited and terrified. There is so much to do and time goes so quickly, but the planning process is actually quite fun!

I just can’t wait to get there and start the festivities! Alecs and I are scouring around for flights and so far it seems no major airlines are publishing flights for anywhere after December 24, 2011 but as soon as we find some we will post them up.

Check out the Transportation section of the website as well for updates on flights we have found, their schedule and costs. We will show flights leaving Calgary – Manila, Vancouver-Manila and Winnipeg-Manila as well as flights from Manila to Cebu.

Wishing you all very Happy New year and stay tuned for more!
